iPhone 3G Finally

Hi folks,

Just (couple hours back really) confirmed my reservation for an iPhone 3G with an appointment at SingTel ComCentre this Friday, 22th August 2008.

The price plans from SingTel Mobile are quite reasonable in my opinion, as compared to the rest of the operators elsewhere in the world launching the iPhone 3G. Not sure if I will get to go home with one this Friday. I was thinking, do I sign up a plan then wait for delivery or get to grab a box immediately?

Anyway, I have worked out the cheapest* way of getting it:

- iPhone 3G 8GB: S$49
- iTwo Plus Plan x 3 Months: S$83 x 3
- Early termination of plan after 3 month: S$375 [source]
(Note: to get the iPhone 3G u'll need to sign a 24 months contract)

Works out to be about S$700.

Normally you can only terminate the line after 3 months, but if it can be done within the first month itself, then it'll work out to be just over S$500.

* All costs may include 7% GST. I have not validated the above prices/plans with SingTel Mobile.

Anything more (than $1000), u might as well get just the handset from Australia.

Btw, the iPhone 3G sold by SingTel Mobile are in unlocked mode.

Why 8GB and not 16GB? I prefer the black model to start with; white one is prone to cracks (just like on the white MacBooks), or shall I say the cracks aren't obvious on the black model. Also on my current iPhone, I have yet to even hit a quarter of its capacity after 1 year of use. Granted, I don't load thousands of songs and movies on my iPhone. For those who do, a lot of you actually, I recommend the 16GB model. Actually, I prefer a faster CPU model to compile code faster with the iPhone GCC. Ya I know, the SDK is great, but sometimes u just need to compile directly on target =P

Good job to SingTel for changing it's landing page design, it now corporates AJAX + Flex and looks cleaner than the old one.

I have never been keen to get a mobile subscription plan from SingTel Mobile. Always thought that their plans are expensive and are for the older generation. Can't say they are targetting the younger folks now, but at least they didn't milk (as in setting high prices) the market with the iPhone 3G. They planned the launch quite well I must say; fact that I got all the news ahead of time (it's 20th August right now and the launch is on 22th August).

Still, I'm keeping my Starhub mobile line =)

Oh lastly, thanks to Benedict for all the up-to-minute updates on the SingTel Mobile iPhone 3G launch. Cheers.
