Hi folks,
As mentioned before, I went to SingTel Comcentre this afternoon and got my iPhone 3G. Couple of updates here:
- The iPhone 3G sold by SingTel Mobile are unlocked as with many other reports. I have tested this using a Starhub SIM card. Yeah! I have also heard from the SingTel staff that IDA does not permit operators from locking phones. That's the way it should be =D
- The termination fee for the 24 months contract is a whopping S$800!! I can understand that they gotta earn some bucks to revenue share with Apple, but S$800 for early termination is far too high compared with the usual S$375.
- It's a super long queue, so if you are going over the weekend, be there early!
- SingTel managed the event quite ok. No major hiccups, but can see (the staffs are excited) some last minute arrangements being made to improve the queueing process. The place is pretty cooling at noon (12:30PM-2:30PM), they must have done quite a bit to ensure that. There's lots of help given to the potential subscribers/buyers; staffs are everywhere to answer questions and show the iPhone 3G. Lastly, once you are at the end of the queue, u'll see a building with more than 50 counters serving the queues. I didn't have to wait even when I walk in; got a number and was served immediately. After purchasing the phone, they'll invite u to attend the basic course that teaches u the blar blar blar of the iPhone 3G. Only thing free is coffee and EPIC seems to be the SingTel partner providing their Apple expertise.
